All artists draw their inspiration from somewhere. For Illustrator David Habben he some of his best inspiration comes from dancers. In his show "Be Somewhere" Habben created a series of over 50 abstract paintings based on the purposeful movements of modern dancers from the University of Utah's dance program. "One of the instructors made the significant comment to his dance students that their movements should be deliberate and thoughtful," said Habben, "in other words, they shouldn't just be 'anywhere,' they should be 'somewhere' specific. I strove to emulate this with my brushwork and find a true purpose behind my rapid compositional choices."
we are excited to announce that members of the community can now see David Habben in action as he paints live ballroom dancers here at Red Finch Gallery on June 23rd from 6-8 pm. This is a free community event. Come see artists at work, and live dancing as well as the Dance photography of Sherry Ward, and our portrait photography show "Solitary Impressions." We are so excited for this opportunity for anyone to come and be a part of the art and the dance community that is alive and thriving here in Utah County, don't miss it!
